I'll probably check out that Hades documentary, and if early access doesn't look too painful I will probably try it. That being said, honestly I describe Hades to some people as "Slay the Spire if it were an ARPG" because despite their different genres, both are amazing roguelikes (well, roguelite in Hades' case) where a lot of the fun and replayability come from seeing how the different passive buffs and active skills interact in different combinations, and I imagine they need good feedback to balance that stuff. And of course as a card game with no story, I didn't have to worry that some character or whatever that I really liked would be changed or removed. I dunno about alpha, but beta was fun because a lot of it is just balance and bug hunting. they changed some of the cards, added the 4th character (which was its own beta), added the final boss and "endings" (such as they are) but it was mostly already in its final form. I feel like that game was just looking for balance and polish in EA though. It didn't come out for another year after that though, and I would have really been sad not to play it during that time. The only game I've played in Early Access was Slay the Spire, and by the time I picked it up, it was already awesome.
